Date published: 28 February 2012

This week’s themes were Lent, The Beatitudes and Fasting. Our Enterprise capability was DECISION MAKING for Years 8 – 11 and this half-term’s focus for Year 7 is CREATIVITY & INNOVATION.

Congratulations to the following students who won the ‘Raising Awareness of Internet Safety’ Competition at Middleton CLC: Josh Haigh - Winning Team, Joseph Akerele - Winning Team, Zak Lennon - Winning Team, Amal Al-Alawi - Winning Team, Keeley Fretwell - Winning Team, Mollie Ann Reid - Winning Team, Zsolt Madar, Declan Ashton, Charlie Terry, Connor Lowery, Roksana Zielonka and Chloe Fleming.

Some of our Year 11 pupils were featured on BBC1’s 'Inside Out' on Tuesday night, in a segment about modern poetry in the North West. Students were filmed in class with Mike Garry, the Manchester street poet, and Mike Fitzsimons, Head of English, was also interviewed – you can catch this on iPlayer and the school’s Life Channel.

'Your Future Your Choice' (an advice session for Year 9) was held in school on Tuesday, with representatives from local colleges, apprenticeship providers and Connexions. The aim of the day was to provide information about post 16 options to help them with their forthcoming GCSE option choices.

The following students have been invited by Mrs Hamilton and Mr Julier to create a St Cuthbert's Olympic Banner, to be carried at the School's Olympics in Manchester in July, ahead of our Student Athletes. Good Luck to Emily Sutherland, Savanna Nguyen, Tamanda Vundule, Emma Chappell, Roksana Zielonka, Jack Walker, Ross Mallinson, Amal Al-Alawi, Alex Blomfield, Cyril Anumbendeen, Tom Hughes, Josh Turner, Callum Andrew and Niamh Baker. Watch this space for the final designs!

Homework club is open at 1.30 each lunchtime in L3 with Mrs Whitmore and Mrs Rushton and Year 7 learners can now enjoy St Cuthbert's daily radio broadcast each lunchtime in the year 7 area. A reminder that late detentions and smart card detentions are now served after school, this is in line with whole school procedures.

The facilities in our Partnership Learning Centre are available for all parents and local businesses who wish to produce resources or develop their own learning. Please speak to Mrs Moore for details (01706 647761).
