Pete Hinchliffe ceremoniously chops his Labour party membership card to pieces in protest at the Council in Rochdale cutting the provision of beds for the homeless in the Borough
A long term member of the Labour party has cut up his party membership card.
Pete Hinchliffe had been a card carrying member of the Labour Party for 30 years, and also a Trade Unionist for decades, but ceremoniously chopped his card to pieces in protest at the Labour Council in Rochdale cutting the provision of beds for the homeless in the Borough.
Mr Hinchliffe is one of the organisers of the fledgling Chill Out campaign that hopes to persuade Labour controlled Rochdale Borough Council to restore help for some of the most vulnerable in society by means of peaceful protest.
Mr Hinchliffe said: "I am a lifelong socialist and always will be. The decision to cut up my party card was not taken lightly but since this decision by the Labour Group, I am no longer prepared to go along with local policies that attack the homeless and the needy. To say that I and many others are shocked and disgusted would be an understatement. "
