MP says he was helping friend not taking a second job

Date published: 12 July 2013

MP for Rochdale Simon Danczuk has hit back at an article in Private Eye that seeks to embarrass him for taking a "second job" that pays him "£1,000 a month for a single days work" whilst "keenly supporting the coalition's plan for the unemployed to wait seven days before signing on".

Mr Danczuk says he has not taken a second job, he was simply helping out an old friend and the amount he received in remuneration has been incorrectly reported.

He said: "This is not a second job, it was a temporary arrangement that has now ended. I was simply helping an old friend out with her business and the figures that have been reported are not true."

From official register of Members' Financial Interests:

"From 1 February 2013, Non-Executive Director, providing business advice for Shine-Bid Services Ltd, The Design Works, 93-99 Goswell Road, London, EC1V 7EY. Remuneration of up to £1,000 per month, for 1 day per month. 2 May 2013, received £1,000. Hours: 8 hrs. (Registered 19 June 2013; updated 3 July 2013)."
