Man assaulted in Heywood in unprovoked attack

A man was punched to the ground and kicked in the throat when a man and a woman launched an unprovoked attack on him outside a Heywood takeaway.

The 34-year-old victim was walking along Bridge Street to meet a friend and as he passed the Bits N Pizza takeaway a woman briefly spoke to him before going into the takeaway and emerging moments later with a man.

She pointed to the victim and he strode forward and punched the victim to the ground and kicked him in the throat.

The man then get into a taxi which drove off.

The victim suffered a fractured cheekbone, as well as cuts and bruises.

It happened at about 2.15am on Saturday 8 February 2014.

The man who threw the punch is described as around 19 years old, 5ft 5in tall, with a slim build, very short blond or brown hair, clean shaven and wearing blue converse type basketball trainers.

The woman was white, with a very slim build, around 5ft 5in tall with a long black hair down to elbows, wearing a sleeveless vest with a black and white pattern on it.

Detective Constable Michael Berger, of Middleton INPT, said: “This unfortunate man’s Friday night out ended with an unscheduled trip to A&E after he was attacked on his way to meet a friend.

“The woman exchanged a few brief words with him before pointing him out to a man in the takeaway.

“We now want to hear from anyone who may have seen this happen, or even better from the taxi driver who drove the pair away from the scene.”
