Heywood Charities Fete hands out a cheque bonanza to local worthy causes and charities

Date published: 19 February 2014

The Heywood Charities Fete held its annual general meeting on Monday 10 February and the highlight of the evening was to hand out cheques to various local organisations and charities.

George Kinder, committee member, said: "Last year's charities fete was so successful with a fantastic procession/parade and wonderful entertainment and stalls in the park.

"We were able to generate extra income from local companies sponsoring events and bands and also we were able to get some additional funding from local government funds. To this end we are able to help these local worthy causes."

The total amount paid out was £3,500 and the recipients were:

  • All Souls Church
  • Harwood Park Primary
  • Heywood Business Group
  • Heywood Division Guides, Brownies, & Rainbows
  • Rotary Club of Heywood
  • Roach Dynamoes
  • Sandon House
  • St James Church
  • St Luke's Church
  • St Margaret's primary School
  • St Margaret's Church
  • St Vincent's de Paul Society
  • The Cellar Project
  • Transport for Sick Children

In addition, over £3,500 was raised by charitable stalls on the charity fete day.

Mr Kinder said: "We are hoping that this year's charities fete will be as successful as last year and will be holding it on 7 September 2014.

"This year we intend to produce a programme to distribute around the town so we will be requesting all those wonderful Heywood companies contribute by including an advert in the programme.

"Last year we were able to book the Red Arrows to fly over the charities fete, you never know we might be lucky again.

"The Charities Fete supports Heywood so we want everyone to support the Charities Fete, anyone wanting to help please contact me."
