Rochdale Rotary club launch Urban Farm Cassette planters

Date published: 24 April 2014

Rochdale Rotary Club held a special event yesterday (Wednesday 23 April) for the launch of their Urban Farm Cassette Planters.

The project was officially launched at Rochdale Fire Station by Mayor of Rochdale and member of Heywood Rotary club, Councillor Peter Rush.

Urban Farm is a simple method of growing fruit and vegetables in vertically hung bags. The scheme was designed for use in arid climates as only tiny amounts of water are needed to maintain it.

The project has been successfully trialled in England, Kenya and Bangladesh with good results.

It is now hoped that the project will go on to generate employment and pioneer a path towards stemming climate change.

The Rotary Club of Rochdale now hopes to market their scheme to a much wider audience, including commercial enterprises.
