Family needing help

Date published: 25 April 2014

A family in Rochdale need help in getting an eight seater car so they can travel to hospital appointments.

The family, who live in Falinge, have seven children. Lucy, one of the older children was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November 2012 and her sister Charlotte is a type 1 diabetic.

The family car recently “blew up” due to a technical fault and now the family are struggling to attend hospital appointments.

Yasmin Khan from Kidz come 1st, a charity which helps families with essential equipment for disabled children, said: “We have been trying to find them help in getting a new car but as of yet have had no luck.”

To add to this, the family recently got news that proton therapy was available for Lucy in America but funding is only available for Lucy and two carers to make the trip.

“We recently heard about funding to send the family to America but it will only cover three of them and there isn’t anyone to stay at home with the other children. This is the last thing they need,” added Yasmin.

The family, with the help of the charity, are looking for support for a car as this is one of the essential needs for the family. This could be in the form of donations towards a car or someone who can sell a car at a reduced rate.

This isn’t the first family that the charity has helped. Three other families from the Rochdale Borough have been helped by Kidz Come 1st. The Jackson family, the Wardley family and the Hollyhead family have also been helped by the charity.
