Falinge Park High School

Date published: 24 June 2014

Well done to all the students and staff who participated and supported the School Sponsored Walk this week. Learners and staff made the annual route around North Rochdale and across the moors in an attempt to raise money and demonstrate a positive attitude towards healthy living. Many thanks to all the members of school who made it such a memorable and enjoyable day.

We ask all parents and families of FPHS students to take extra care when collecting learners from our school gates each night or at the start of the day, especially when driving a car. It is helpful if learners are dropped off at Clarkes Lane or any of the adjacent streets. Please do not park on zig zag lines or near our turning circle as it puts the lives of students at risk. Parents or relatives who fail to follow the highway code may be prosecuted.

Many thanks to all the families and friends who joined us for our ‘Camel Race’ Evening on Friday, 27 June at 6.30pm, organised by our P.T.A. The event proved to be lots of fun for families and staff alike.

Tickets for our forthcoming ‘Tex Mex Arts Quiz Night’ are still available. The event takes place on the 8 July from 6pm until 8.30pm and features Mexican inspired food and dishes (including a vegetarian option). The night will feature a range of fun family orientated activities and a series of performances from both our BTEC Music students and our very own Mariachi band. For tickets or more details, please contact Mr De Courcey.

Well done to the students in Years 7 and 8 who joined Mr De Courcey and Mr Dalby on a visit to the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes and then onto Lancaster Butterfly House and Ashton Memorial Monument in Lancaster this week. Students were able to look at the new sculpture trail using QR readers on smartphones and looked at the new contemporary art exhibition in the memorial monument in Lancaster.

Students who find themselves in need of entertainment and challenge over the Summer holidays may like to sign up to receive our newly redesigned ‘Arts Takeaway Kits’. The kits feature a range of arts related challenges to encourage students to develop new skills and reflect on their learning more deeply, having fun along the way too! To show interest in receiving a kit, please contact Mr Ahmed, Mr Wilcock or Mr De Courcey in the CEPA Office in the next two weeks and sign up.

There are still places available for our forthcoming ‘Roman Invasion’ Summer School which takes place in the first full week of the Summer holidays for Year 6 students joining us in September. The week long Summer School features a visit to Hadrian’s Wall and the Roman fort of Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. It also features a trip to Chester to the Grosvenor Museum and Dewa Roman Experience. The week includes plenty of exciting activities and a visit to the school by a Roman Army! To find out more please contact Mr De Courcey directly at school.

There are two unclaimed raffle prizes from our evening at the Imperial War Museum for ‘Project Tommy’. If you are in possession of tickets 569 or 536, please contact Mr Ahmed or Mr Wilcock in school in the next week and no later than Friday 5 July to claim your prizes.

Photos of our Year 11 Prom are now available to view on our school website. Well done to all the students who attended and made us proud once again, particularly in remembrance of Mikayla at our shared balloon launch. Many thanks to Mr Rhodes and Ms Herdman for organising the evening. We hope that all students enjoyed themselves as we come to the close of the exam season. We will see our Year 11 again soon on results day.

Year 11 students who have borrowed text books, library books or resources are politely asked to return them to their respective staff via school reception before the close of term or on results day. By returning books, you help us to keep down costs and invest in other learning resources for future students. Thanks for your support in advance.

Well done to all pupils successfully completing their practice expedition in Rivington over the weekend. The weather was glorious and all pupils and staff had an excellent time. Training sessions will continue as normal over the next few weeks as pupils start to prepare for their qualifying expedition in Clitheroe in September.
