Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 28 June 2014

On Tuesday 24 June, our Year 6 Community Cohesion Ambassadors presented their speeches to the great and the good at Rochdale Town Hall.

Each of the children worked in triads with their peers from Marland Hill Primary School and Rochdale Sixth Form College. They presented their ideas on how we can continue to work cohesively across different communities in Rochdale to make our town a better place.

Representatives from the Police, local Councillors, The Local Authority Inclusion and Equality Officer and representatives from Schools and Children’s Services all joined us.

The group were an absolute credit to us all. Thank you to Mrs Coward and Miss Mullane for their input.

The Citizens of the week for the week ending 27 June was awarded to the Community Cohesion Group for their excellent behaviour and presentation at this event.

On Wednesday 25 June, the children in Year 5 who are part of the IPLCN’s Reading University Programme joined with other schools in our group at Rochdale Cricket Club. This was a wonderful celebration of their achievements so for this year – they are making great progress with their reading. We hope they enjoy reading their copies of ‘War Horse’ over the summer holidays in preparation for the work they will be doing in Year 6. Thank you to Miss Bradshaw and Mrs Hoyle for all the work they are doing with this group of children.

This week, the children in Year 5 have been on taster days to both Kingsway Park High School and Wardle High School. This is to support parents’ decision making process for transition to secondary school.

On Tuesday 1 July we will be welcoming our new Reception children to school for a transition session. They Year 6 children will be visiting High Schools and the rest of the school will be spending time with their new teachers.

School photographs will be next Thursday 3 July. Class photos will be taken from Nursery – Year 5. The Year 6 children will have individual photographs as previous years.

Please can parents see the letter on the back of the 27 June Newsletter. Just to clarify that the school’s position has not changed since last year in that we will facilitate arrangements for Year 6 children ONLY to keep their fast. Written permission is required from a Parent/Carer only.
