Falinge Park High School

Thanks to all the Year 6 learners who joined us this week as part of our Induction Day. We hope that you found the day useful and reassuring. You should have left the school on the day with a large amount of information and support. If you still have unanswered questions about starting with us in September then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Rudkowskyj or Ms. Turrell in school.

Many thanks to all the families who joined us for the Camel Race this week. The evening proved to be most enjoyable and we raised over £500.00 for the Teenage Cancer Trust through the event. Many thanks also to Ms. Moore and Mr. Wilcock for supporting the event with the 'Ubuntu Challenge Raffle' which aims to help support the construction of a new school in Uganda.

Well done to all our Year 7 C.A.L.L. learners who presented work as part of the 'Insert Text Here' Showcase this Wednesday. The exhibition explores the idea of language and living in the future and the C.A.L.L. classes interpreted the theme in different ways, including poetry skyscrapers and a fabric timeline. Many thanks to all the students and staff for their hard work.

Our 'Tex Mex Arts Quiz Night' takes place on Tuesday, 8 July at 6pm until 8pm. The evening contains fun family orientated activities and entertainment, accompanied by a variety of Mexican themed dishes with vegetarian options. Tickets cost £6.00 (including food) and are limited in number. If the weather proves pleasant then we shall hold the event on the Science rooftop terrace; if not then it will be held in the main Heart Space. The evening features a great raffle with an I-pad Mini as the first prize! For tickets, please contact Mr. De Courcey, Mr. Wilcock or Mr. Ahmed.

You can now see our Arts activities on the Culturehubs website too as we are a registered member of the Culturehubs network. This allows you to see more of what we do as a school and to see the provision we offer.

Year 11 learners still have time to work on their Arts Award Portfolios but we ask that all work is returned to us now as soon as possible. In the next few weeks, we will be in touch to outline the assessment and moderation process which takes place on Thursday 24 July from 9.30am onwards. For more details, please contact your Arts Award teacher.

Many thanks to the Dramatically Healthy Theatre Company who came into school this week to present a short drama around the theme of 'Well Being'. The piece featured students from other schools and was seen by our Year 9 Drama, Dance and Music students. The students will now use the piece to reflect on the performances of others as part of their Arts Award Silver work.

There is still time for students to complete the Roman Scriptwriting Competition with the C.E.P.A. Faculty. The entry form is available online on our website and we welcome entries from all years. There are some great prizes up for grabs.

This week has seen the issue of our first 'Create & Participate!' Compilation Yearbook for the C.E.P.A. Faculty which brings together over a year's worth of student Arts e-newsletters to offer a quick overview of the past academic year. The book is over 30 pages in length and a single copy is available in each tutor group. The yearbook itself can be downloaded from our school website in its entirety.

Students from across the years can sign up to receive an 'Arts Takeaway Kit' this summer which provides a range of challenges in Visual Art, Music and Drama. The pack asks learners to complete a specific challenge and record their progress along the way. Students who complete the pack will receive a certificate and some Vivo rewards. For more details of how to get involved, please contact Mr. De Courcey.

There are still a limited number of places left for the C.A.L.L. Summer School which takes place on the week beginning Monday 28 July through to Friday 1 August. The week long Summer School is for Year 6 students who will be joining us in September and there are specific criteria for application. The week involves a visit to Hadrian's Wall and Chester and will also include a visit by the Roman Army to FPHS! For more details, please contact Mr. De Courcey, Mr. Wilcock or Mr. Ahmed.

The charge for a standard school meal will increase by five pence (5p) from £1.90 to £1.95 with effect from September 2014.
