St John with St Michael enjoy trips to London and Clitheroe
Date published: 10 July 2014
Pupils from St John with St Michael CE Primary, in Shawforth, have recently enjoyed trips to London and Clitheroe, as well as hosting their annual afternoon tea party.
Year 5 and 6 pupils spent five fun-filled days in London.
The students travelled to London by train and stayed in a youth hostel in Kensington.
Throughout their stay, the pupils enjoyed day trips to places such as Princess Diana’s Memorial Park, Kensington Palace, 10 Downing Street, and the Tower of London. The children also went to watch Matilda the Musical.
The trip was said to be a fantastic experience for the children and linked in with various areas of their curriculum.
Children from Class 3 enjoyed an action packed stay at Waddow Hall, Clitheroe.
Whilst there, the children participated in a number of adventurous activities including building a raft which they then sailed on down the river, abseiling a rocky wall, zooming down hills on grass sledges, and learning basic circus skills.
The children’s favourite activity was roasting marshmallows on the campfire in the evening and singing camp songs. The children also paid a visit to Clitheroe Castle and looked around the museum.
The 15th annual afternoon tea party was held at St John with St Michael CE Primary School for the Year 6 leavers.
Each year, the school leavers from year 6 help serve tea, coffee and cakes to their grandparents, older friends and neighbours.
The guests are also entertained by poems and songs from children in each class. Mrs Pedder, a classroom assistant at the school, also performed some traditional war songs.
Mrs Earnshaw, who has had ten of her own grandchildren at the school throughout the years, said: “What a delightful afternoon as always. I enjoy coming in and seeing what the children are doing by looking at the displays and I always enjoy having a sing-a-long at the party.”
