Year 10 cycle ride and overnight camp
Date published: 11 July 2014
In June the Public Services Group, which is made up of young people from Holy Family and Siddal Moor, completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze Qualifying Expedition.
The group completed a challenging two day unaccompanied cycle ride with one overnight camp.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award the Public Services students had to complete an expedition.
Prior to the qualifying expedition the students completed training that allowed them to do the cycle ride without adults, covering skills such as navigation, camp craft, teamwork, communication, nutrition and fitness.
By the end the students had gained better team and leadership skills, more confidence and experienced laughs, joy and frustration!
To achieve the overall award, in addition to the expedition the students must also complete volunteering, physical and skills sections.
