Duke's Rd visit St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 16 September 2014

A band that has raised more than £30,000 for charity will put on a concert at St Andrew's, Dearnley on Saturday, 4 October in aid of church funds.

Since its last visit a year ago, the band previously known as 'Gifted' has reinvented itself and changed its name to 'Duke's Rd'.

Two members have retired and the quartet now comprises of Tony Bostock (guitar, keyboard and vocals), Jamie Harrison (bass and lead vocals), Keith Claxton (drums) and Gareth Dickinson (guitar).

Said Tony: "It's a treat to make a return visit to St Andrew's where we always get a 'reet good' Rochdale welcome."

Last year's visit took the form of a Lancashire Night, but this time it will be mainly songs from the 60s and 70s, plus ballads, rock and roll and other popular music. There will be an opportunity to dance as well as a fun quiz, presented by the band.

Tickets priced £6, including supper, are available from Ada Pratt on 07854703426, Janice or other members of the social committee and are always available in church on Sundays. Doors open 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

The band was recently awarded a community grant of £750 for its services to Shevington (a district of Wigan).

It has also performed for 'Help the Heroes', many churches, 'The Brick' (a charity for homeless people in Wigan) and the 'Massindi Project' in Uganda, which provides funds for severely disabled children in that country.
