Wardle Academy netball team had a busy week last week hosting Siddal Moor and travelling away to play Middleton Technology and Holy Family.

Years 8 and 10 played Siddal Moor at home on Tuesday (23 September) night with the year 8s fighting it out for a draw against a good Siddal Moor side. Player of the match went to Jordanna Thwaites.

Year 10 had a convincing victory over Siddal Moore, winning 17-2, with player of the match going to Ella Clegg.

Wednesday (24 September) saw all four teams set off to Heywood where they were up against teams from Holy Family and Middleton Technology.

Year 7 got off to a great start, playing some excellent netball in what was their first competitive match. They narrowly missed out on the win, losing 8-7 to a very good Middleton side. Player of the match went to Ferne Lord.

Their second game against Holy Family allowed the defence to control the game making some excellent interceptions. The final score was Wardle 18 – 0 Holy Family. Player of the match went to Niamh Clegg.

Year 8 got off to a great start, building a lead of 2-0 with Izzy Drysdale scoring both goals in the first half. Middleton Technology continued to fight hard and after a few changes at half time the score was brought level to 2-2.

The team then took the lead again to make it 3-2 but a late goal from Middleton Technology in the second half saw the game tied at 3-3.

With a close first half of the second game there were no goals scored, but after a team talk at half time Wardle controlled the game and with a fantastic defensive duo of Charlotte Parkinson and Jordanna Thwaites, Wardle kept possession of the ball and scored two, leaving the final score as a first win for the Year 8 team at 2-0.

Player of the match for both matches went to Samantha Terry.

After a jittery start Year 9 pulled away in their first match to win 9-5, even though some tactical changes were made in order to ensure everyone got some court time.

In the second match they dominated winning 8-1. Grace Anderson was player of the match for both games.

Year 10 had a fantastic evening at the Heywood venue with two convincing wins over Middleton and Holy Family. The team played some superb netball, with strong and accurate passing from defence to attack. The team worked well together and played some good tactical netball.

Wardle beat Middleton 22-2 with player of the match going to Ella Clegg. They also beat Holy Family 18-0 with player of the match going to Olivia Krogulski.
