Geoff Butterworth exhibits in local pop up art gallery

Date published: 09 October 2014

Local artist Geoff Butterworth is displaying his work in a pop up art gallery.

The gallery was the idea of Rochdale Online Director John Kay who suggested to Geoff he exhibit his paintings at the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre.

Geoff said: “It has gone well. We have had a lot of people coming in and having a look and sold a number of prints as well so that has been good.”

In the gallery Geoff is currently displaying and selling original pieces and prints.

“We have original pieces from the calendars of Rochdale which we did between 2008 and 2011, we have pieces that aren’t about Rochdale and we have pieces that have come from galleries,” said Geoff.

Geoff has also been painting in the gallery and is currently working on a piece of Rochdale in the 1960s.

He said: “It would usually take about two or three days for me to finish a piece like this but because I can’t be here all of the time it is taking a little longer than usual.”

Local charities have also been using the gallery to promote themselves and their work. The Rotary Club has a display of their Grow Bags to show people and the NSPCC were at the exhibition today (Thursday 9 October).

“I think it has been a good length of time to be here. It is a quiet spot but it has attracted a number of people to come in and have a look,” said Geoff.

The pop up art gallery will come to an end on Friday 31 October.
