Year 8 Boys Rugby team

The Year 8 Boys Rugby team participated at the Emerging Schools Competition at Trafford MV RFC last week. Oulder Hill finished third in a group that consisted of six schools including Loreto, Ashton on Mersey, Abraham Moss, Prestwich and New Charter.

The results from the group matches were as follows: OH 1-1 Prestwich, OH1-1 Abraham Moss 1, OH 2-0 New Charter, OH 2-1 Ashton on Mersey, OH 1-2 Loreto. Overall Oulder Hill won two, drew two and lost one. Many boys participated in their first ever rugby game at the event, and their delight when tries were scored was as if they had won the FA Cup!

The students played brilliantly and had a fantastic team mentality. Congratulations to: Zaki Bowden (1 try), Joseph Moore, Luis Andrew, Andrew Hill, Ethan Pope, Isma’il Mackmood, Bilal Malik, Eren Dincer, Mohammad Faisal, Jack Ashton (1 try), Muzamil Bashir (5 tries), Azaan Tariq, Aadam Latif, Sean Crossley and Saif Zulfiqar.

Rochdale Schools Cross-Country competition

Massive congratulations to the Oulder Hill pupils who participated in the Rochdale Schools Cross-Country competition which was held at Falinge Park over two weeks on the 2 October and 9 October. We had one of our most successful competitions ever winning many individual medals and also winning two year group trophies at Year 7 and Year 8 Girls level. The Year 9 Boys were also very close to winning the trophy but narrowly missed out by a few points. Hill had over 60 pupils competing each week which was the record for numbers competing from any school. Well done to all the students who participated (far too many to mention here!) with special mention to: Matthew Greenwood (1st in two races), Lewis Hamer (3rd in two races), Sophie Charlton (6th in second race), Chloe Davies (1stin second race), RosangelaSumbo(1stin two races), Mio Griffiths (2ndin second race), Jacob Ellis (6th in first race), Anna Opincane (8thin second race) and Morgan Howarth (6th in second race).

Year 7 Boys Football team

The Year 7 Boys Football team played their most recent fixture away at Wardle Academy. They were unfortunate to be on the losing side of a 5-1 score line. The team never gave up and continued to battle on in terrible weather conditions, and were cheered up by a goal from Bailey Mills, who was making his Oulder Hill debut. The team have been very unfortunate in their first three games, competingagainst teams containing players from local football academies. If they continue to show the same determination and positive attitude that they have done, their first win should be just around the corner. Well done to the team: Joseph Oldham, Maxx Wright, James Warburton, Dion Parker-Minchin, Thomas Coleman, Ethan Steel, Dylan Stott, Connor Marrow, William Strudwick, Lucas Dowd, Ryan Marshall, Christian Carney, Cameron McGhee and Bailey Mills.

Year 9 Boys Football team

The Year 9 Boys Football team put in a good performance to beat Middleton Technology College 4-1 on a rain and wind-swept afternoon. All the students who participated played well, congratulations to: Callum Ruffell, Matthew Greenwood, Jack Turner, Danny Devine, Marcus Welsby, Dayne Stewart, Hakeem Gbajabiamila, Bailey Turner, Nelson McKeown, Thomas Booth and Jordan Parkhill.

Residential visit to Verona, Italy

On Sunday 19 October, 27 students and 3 teachers will set off on a residential visit to Verona, Italy. The visit will focus on Italian culture and will provide a unique opportunity for students who are studying Italian to develop their language skills. Students will have the opportunity to sample many of the area’s finest cultural experiences as well as doing lots of shopping! During the trip we will visit the main sights of Central Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake. The students will, of course, be able to sample lots of authentic Italian cuisine and creamy gelato!

Year 9 Oulder Hill Readathon

Year 9 students will be raising money for local charities close to our hearts on Thursday 23rd October during their PSHCE lesson. Those who read for pleasure are more likely to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. That's why we have created our own Year 9 Oulder Hill Readathon. We are encouraging our students to read for pleasure with a group reading challenge whilst, at the same time, raising money for those in need. Reading for pleasure, Reading to fundraise, Reading to enhance people’s lives!

Prison Me No Way!

During Immersion Day on 15 October 2014, Year 9 students will participate in Prison Me No Way! a Crime and Safety Awareness Day. Workshops included Prisoner Insight, C.E.O.P, Criminal and Prisoner Life amongst many others. This was an exciting and very interesting day from highly acclaimed providers, and we thank them for coming to our school to take part.

The Year 7 team would like to congratulate the Year 7s on such a positive start to their time at Oulder Hill and thank parents for their ongoing support. We look forward to another successful half term.

School closes for half term on Friday 24 October. We hope you all have a good, relaxing break, and we look forward to welcoming you all back ready to learn on Monday 3 November.
