Jim Wilkes Stompers
Date published: 12 June 2008
Jim Wilkes Stompers return visit to Jazz on Sunday brought its usual mix of fun, jazzed up numbers and self-deprecation. Wilkes has developed a cult following and every gig seems to become a family party!
Led by Jim on trumpet with regulars Paul Broomhead (reeds), Terry Arnold (trombone), Jeff Kitson (bass guitar) and Howard Maud (drums). Wilkes introduced guest banjo / guitarist John Gordons who blended in perfectly with a superb Django Reinhart performance on “Some of These Days” accompanied on bass and drums. As they say in these parts, “a reet good do”!
Next Sunday 5 September brings a special visit from Australia, ‘The Louisiana Shakers’. A big crowd is expected – 8.00pm.
