Johnny Hooper

Top welsh saxophonist Johnny Hooper domiciles in the Algarve where he entertains visiting Brits, made his annual visit to "Jazz on a Sunday"” as part of his regular British winter tour. His powerful treatment and arrangements of jazz standards, plus his own melodic compositions didn't disappoint an audience made up of British fans who await the annual 'pilgrimage' with anticipation and with compass and road map at the ready, joining the Broadfield regulars in an evening of mellow jazz.

Using backtrack blend in the absence of his live band didn’t overly detract from his usual exciting presentation atmospherically performed in a darkened arena.

The music of Earl Bostick was given full prominence whilst the audience 'awaited his intricate nuances of favourites 'Ave Maria' and the music from 'Peter Gunn'.

The Evening was interspersed with his teasing musical quiz until the sounds of his sax drifted away into the night.
