Geoff Butterworth exhibition raises over £1,000 for the Childline Project

Date published: 28 October 2014

The exhibition of original paintings by local artist Geoff Butterworth, which has been running at Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre since the 20 September 2014 when it was opened by the Mayor, has raised over £1,000 for the Childline Project of the NSPCC, through which it is hoped that trained educators will visit every school in Rochdale to help our children to a safer future.

The exhibiton willl be brought to a close by Simon Danczuk MP, who will draw the winning tickets in the raffle, via which the money has been raised.

The exhibition was possible because the shopping centre made available an empty unit for a six week period, artist Geoff Butterworth allowed his paintings to be displayed, members of the Rotary Club of Rochdale acted as stewards throughout the six week period and Rochdale Council exercised its discretion to waive rates on the unit.

Everyone has benefitted with entrance to the exhibition being free. The quality of the paintings has raised Rochdale’s image for Art Exhibitions and Geoff Butterworth has become a “Friend of the Rotary Club of Rochdale”

John Kay, a Director of Rochdale Online, whose office, Molesworths Bright Clegg, is situated in the Rochdale Exchange Market, said: “The project has achieved all its objectives. We have raised money from the public to help charity. We have given everyone a high quality exhibition and we have promoted this excellent local artist.

"It is an investment to buy Geoff’s paintings as they will appreciate over time. If anyone has missed their opportunity then they can contact me or purchase his images through the Rochdale Online Department Store.”
