Memorial - Peter R Hughes

Peter Rodney Hughes passed peacefully away, aged 77 years, on Monday 29 September in Newburgh, Fife after a long illness, leaving his wife, Jean and two sons Chris and Paul.
Peter was born in April 1937 in Dearnley, Littleborough, to Thomas and Doris, brother of Audrey and Gerard.
After his National Service with the Lancashire Fusiliers, Peter and Jean were married in September 1959 and he became a barber, for many years his shop was located at the bottom of Whitworth Road, he was particularly well known to the shift workers at Holroyd's foundry.
Peter had many career changes, the most notable one being when he and Jean became the landlord and landlady of The Rake Inn, Blackstone Edge Old Road, Littleborough for a number of years before retiring to New Quay, South West Wales. He remained in New Quay for 28 years until the week before his passing.
Peter had been a keen yachtsman and a member of Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club. And for a time was a breeder of pedigree English Bull Terriers. Peter had a deep love of opera and a deep respect for Frank Sinatra.
Peter's funeral was held on 16 October 2014 in Perth, Scotland and attended by close family members only, however, a memorial will be held at the Coach House, Littleborough at 2.00pm on Saturday 13 December 2014.
