Amirul Alum with Dame Kelly Holme and Sadie Visick from AQA
Amirul Alum, aged 16, from Rochdale, has graduated from the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and education charity AQA’s Unlocking Potential scheme, at a celebration event to mark the end of the 2014 programme.
Amirul, who attends Meadows Care, was nominated by his teacher to take part in the unique mentoring scheme which pairs teenagers who have faced personal challenges with Team GB Olympians and elite athletes.
Amirul was teamed with champion skateboarder Neil Danns. Over the eight month scheme, Danns supported Amirul in building his confidence, motivation and also to plan and deliver a local community project. Amirul chose to run a fancy dress fun run at his school, to bring students together.
At the celebration event yesterday at the Kia Oval in London, Amirul was presented by his graduation certificate by Dame Kelly Holmes, who wished him well in his future.
