Anger at fly-tipping on Marlborough Street

Date published: 20 November 2014

A resident is angry that Rochdale Council has not acted after he reported fly-tipping of rubbish on Marlborough Street, Rochdale - the resident says it is now over a week since the rubbish was dumped.

In an email to the Council, the resident said: "I find this rather disturbing that you will leave this rubbish outside of my front door disregarding my rights to have a clean street/pedestrian foot path to egress from my house onto.

"This is not the first time this year, we had to endure weeks of emails, with reassurances that something was being done regarding in the region of 25 bin bags dumped in the alley way. The summer weeks went by and nothing changed. With this over the summer were there was putrid smells coming from the dumped rubbish, fly infestations and the sight of some rodents. But, you the council, held steady and reassured us something was being done - September is when the bags were finally moved after an investigator went through the bags and found evidence of where they had come from.

"It was such a relief to finally be rid of the smell, never mind the rest of the pests associated with the waste. However, now we are facing it all again! And outside our front door!"

A spokesman for Rochdale Borough Council said: “An officer will visit the site tomorrow morning, inspect the bags of waste to try and establish who left them, and arrange for them to be removed as soon as possible.”
