'The room was buzzing' at the African Night

Date published: 27 November 2014

An African Night held at the Castlemere Banqueting Hall on Saturday (22 November 2014) was attended by nearly 200 tenants and residents of Freehold Housing Estate.

The event was opened by Mohammed Azhar, Secretary of Freehold Community Group, who gave a warm welcome to everybody.

Entertainment started with a performance by the under 12s Freehold Bashers Dance Group performing to All About the Bass and T.I.N.A, followed by rappers EZKA, Dev and PK, singer Pamellah, and singer Ria Brown with dancers.

Dev and PK really got the night rocking with the audience on their feet dancing and singing along throughout the first half of the event.

During the break people had the opportunity to taste traditional African food prepared and served by local volunteers.

A number of stalls were also selling goods such snow cones, chocolate and popcorn along with hair braiding and face painting being available.

Entertainment for the second half of the night was again by Dev and PK, Pamellah, and Ria Brown. This time it was Ria Brown who got everybody dancing and singing, with everybody wanting more at the end of the night.

On closing the event committee members thanked everybody for attending and gave a big thank you to Freehold volunteers for their help.

DJ a Freehold resident said: “What a night PK and Dev were brilliant I’ve really enjoyed myself” and Leanne another Freehold resident said: “Well done a really good night the room was buzzing.”

The free event was organised by Freehold Community Group in partnership with Freehold Tenants & Residents Association and Manchester Metropolitan University to celebrate modern African Culture and support Marc Dinganga a third year student with is final year project.
