Professor Michael Wood visits Matthew Moss High School

Date published: 27 November 2014

In Humanities at Matthew Moss High School, Year 7 learners are currently researching a project about Rochdale and how it has changed overtime. The outcome of the project is for each learner to produce an article about Rochdale.

To enable them in developing their research skills learners were privileged to experience a talk by Historian Professor Michael Wood. Prof Wood has produced many documentaries for the BBC and teaches at the University of Manchester.

Learners found out about the Peterloo Massacre and the development of Manchester and the surrounding area during the Industrial Revolution.

They also discovered what the lives of people were like during this period. Over the next few weeks learners will continue to research and draft their articles which will be completed in the New Year.

The articles will be published in a magazine, which will be available to read at Touchstones. If you have any information or are able to support this project please contact Mrs Doherty at school.
