Rochdale Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets at TS Frobisher
Alistair Shingler, Royal Marine Reservist and founder of Alternative Forces, a community group supporting individual to make positive changes to their lives, was welcomed with a armed guard of honour by cadets at TS Frobisher on Tuesday (2 December).
TS Frobisher, the military cadet branch on Greenbank Road, is the base of Rochdale Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets, also welcomed Councillor Alan McCarthy, Lead Member for the Armed Forces at Rochdale Borough Council, for a tour of the training ship.
The training ship is up against funding issues and is in a bad state of repair, but a renovation plan is in place to return TS Frobisher to its former glory.
The plan has been set up by Peter Stericker with the Bury Fusiliers Association.
In 2015, cadets at TS Frobisher will also begin using TS Palatine, based at Hollingworth Lake, as a water-based training centre.
TS Palatine was closed by the Marine Society in 2011 but has been made available again via Alternative Forces, who use it as a training centre.
