Wardle Village Boxing Day Walk
Date published: 27 December 2014
Over three hundred people turned out for the Wardle Village Boxing Day Walk, despite very muddy conditions.
Norma Brandon, Group Scout Leader of17th Rochdale 1st Wardle Scout group, said: "Whilst there was low cloud on the tops, the rain (and snow) held off to give everyone who took part a difficult but not over-taxing challenge."
At the end of the one and a half hour walk, the walkers enjoyed bacon butties, tea and coffee.
Wardle Scout Group raised over £550 for their Scout HQ fund and the leaders and helpers cooked, and sold, 22Kgs of bacon.
Norma added: "We would like to thank the walkers for supporting us with such hearty appetites.
"The atmosphere in the Scout HQ after the walk was one of friendly exhaustion and it is a privilege to be part of this local event in its 40th year."
