The Year 7 Girls’ Football team won three of their five games in the Rochdale Girls Super Six football finals last week, finishing in third place. Well done to the students who participated: Rachael Goulding, Ellie-Jane Howarth, Eve Thornsby, Keeva McCann, Keri Barlow, Brooke Strudwick, Rebecca Harrison and Summer Baro.

Well done to the Year 10 and 11 Badminton Team who represented Rochdale at the Greater Manchester Schools Badminton Tournament, which was held at the National Cycling Centre. The players were fantastic ambassadors for Rochdale and were unlucky not to qualify for the quarter final stages. They won against St. Ambrose 4-1 but unfortunately lost to New Charter Academy from Ashton 3-2 and Sale Grammar School 4-1. The boys involved were: Ibrahim Ansari, Morgan Stubbs, Shazad Ali and Tri Nguyen. Player of the Tournament for Oulder Hill was Ibrahim Ansari who only lost one of his singles matches. Well done to the students involved.

Mrs McGill and Mrs Mills received a thank you email from Cash for Kids for our contributions to their Mission Christmas Appeal: “Thank you so much once again for all your support before Christmas. Mission Christmas closed having redistributed £1.65m of gifts to over 36,000 children, an unbelievable total to which your school greatly contributed, I cannot thank you enough.” Oulder Hill students and staff generously donated 476 gifts and over £700, thank you to all those who contributed.

Year 11 students completing the IGCSE English course will be assessed on their Individual Speaking presentations between 26 and 29 January 2015, worth 20% of their final grade. Students will receive a personal time and venue for their assessment in due course. Please encourage your son or daughter to use their time wisely and ensure preparation is underway. Thank you, Mr Lynch.

Year 9 hosted their Celebration Assembly on Friday 16 January. Awards were presented to students for having an outstanding attitude to learning and attitude to homework. Some of the prize-winners in this category were: Matthew Greenwood, Jordan Parkhill and Hadia Jami. In addition, awards were also presented for top progress in a variety of subjects. There are too many to name here, but some of the winners were: Mnahil Mustafa (Maths), Samad Raza (Science) and Zara Bradley-Ahmed (English and Maths). Well done to all the students, keep up the good work!

The Year 7 team would like to thank parents who attended the first Year 7 Celebration Assembly on 19 January and once again congratulate the many prize-winners who have made great progress in their first term at Oulder Hill.

The Year 11 Sport BTEC group visited the Etihad Stadium last week as part of their BTEC course and all students and staff involved had a superb time. They participated in a tour of the stadium and then listened to a presentation. All the students behaved impeccably and were a credit to the school. Feedback from the students was that they had a great time! Thank you to Mr. Bardsley, Mrs. Tosh and Mr. Pickles for assisting with the trip on the day.

An amendment to the 468 bus service comes in to effect from the 25 January. More information is available to download from the school website regarding this.
