Panto & Carol Concert

The panto came to Littleborough! This was a popular move because the children still enjoyed a real pantomime experience but parents saved the coach and ticket costs of visiting a theatre. The children even had refreshments thanks to the PTFA.

Our Carol Concert on Friday 19 December was a great success. The Band played beautifully and our new choir was a delight. Thank you for joining your children in a good old fashioned Carol Concert! This was followed by the Fancy Dress Parade for all children.

Homework has changed!

In January 2015 we launched our new Homework policy and a copy was sent home to every family. We now have Learning Logs.

Learning logs work for all pupils - we are finding that all children want to talk about their learning; the quiet child is communicating their learning through their log; the more able is extending their learning.

Learning Logs are a journal for the child to record their knowledge and understanding in whatever way they feel is most helpful. Children may use pictures, writing, photographs, labelled diagrams, pop up pictures or fold away flaps, to present their work.

Every two weeks your child will be sent home with a homework task which they will complete in this new book. There will be a date when the book needs to be returned.

All tasks will be linked to curriculum topics in school. The task will be split into bronze, silver and gold levels. They are designed to fit in with your family life!! The idea is that some weeks your family will be very busy and may only be able to do a bronze task. Other weeks your child might have a bit more time to do silver or gold.

If your child only does the bronze task, they will still get a sticker and may get a credit if the work they have done shows great effort!

The children can complete their homework using photographs, drawings as well as writing. Please keep the work to a minimum of two pages.

This is an excellent opportunity for parents to support their child's learning at home. Please do not hesitate to speak to your child's teacher if you would like additional information with the specific tasks.

Our kitchen gets 5 stars

The Environmental Health inspection on Thursday gave our kitchen the highest grade – 5 stars. Well done everyone!

Just a reminder

Dinner Money and fees such as Lion Club and Nursery can be paid on SIMS Agora.
If you haven't been on the system we will have to reactivate the code. Please ask at the office.

Please could you make sure that any loose cash handed in either at the office or with your child, is in an envelope with your child's name, clearly marked on the envelope along with the class number. This will be more secure than loose change floating around!!

Please make sure that payments for Lion Club, Nursery and Dinner money (if applicable), are kept up to date. If arrears occur it could jeopardize any one of the above.

Please make sure phone numbers are kept up to date, especially if you had a new phone for Christmas! The text system worked well in the severe weather, so please make sure we have your correct number!

We are finding that sending your child into school if you have had to give them Calpol for a temperature, cold or flu, is not working very well. This is because once the Calpol has worn off, the child tends to become poorly once again, so we then have to call you to pick them up. We understand the need to get to work, and advise a back up plan to look after or pick up your child if this is the case!

If your child is going to be absent please ring in to explain their absence. This will avoid getting an unauthorized absence on their record.

Preparations are well underway for the residential to Whitby in June. Please could you make sure that at least half of the money has now been paid, as requested. All the day trips have been booked and we have had to pay deposits etc. for these and the accommodation.

The learning challenge curriculum.
This month we are featuring Y5 as World War 2 evacuees in their gas masks and in the Anderson shelter.

Severe weather conditions

In very severe weather, we may have to temporarily close the school. The responsibility for this decision lies with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors. We will always try to open or partially open and provide as full a provision as possible. Closure of school is a last resort once all other options have been considered. However the decision will need to be based on the safety and/or welfare of the pupils and staff. The council’s website www.rochdale.gov.uk/snow is the single point of reference, drawing together the latest and most accurate information on all services affected by snow or severe weather. We will always text you immediately. We will also text everyone to say we are open, if that is the case, in bad weather. This worked well last week.
