Date published: 30 January 2015

A man was knocked unconscious after he was attacked in Rochdale.

At around 2.30am on Sunday 25 January 2015, the 44-year-old was stood talking with friends on Market Place, Middleton when he was approached by a man.

He was punched to the face, causing him to fall backwards and bang his head on nearby railings, knocking him unconscious. The offender ran off.

The victim was taken to hospital suffering a fractured jaw and a laceration to the back of the head.

Detective Constable Charlie Stewart said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply talking with friends after enjoying a night out in Middleton.

“Unfortunately, the only description we have of the offender is he was wearing dark clothing with white trainers. After the attack, he ran off under a nearby subway.

“If you witnessed the assault or saw the man run off, I would ask you to contact us on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
