Rochdale Train Station brightened up with planters

Date published: 25 February 2015

Rochdale Train Station has been brightened up after Middleton resident Harry Alldritt decided to make planters for the station.

Mr Alldritt said: “Train stations aren’t the brightest of places on the best days so I thought it would be a nice idea to put some planters on the platforms and brighten the place up a bit.”

There are five planters located around the station. They are made out of decking wood and are varnished to give them a high quality finish.

“They have to be heavy so people can’t move them. Me and my wife made them at home in the garage and then we had to get some help in getting them to the station,” added Mr Alldritt.

Harry received a grant from Forever Manchester and sponsorship from Ronseal.

He added: “Forever Manchester have been great in helping me and I recently got confirmation that Ronseal are sponsoring me so I can get the varnish from them so that is a huge help. It was working out that it was around £28 for a tin of varnish.

“I am more than pleased with them and think they look great.

"I now have plans to make some for Mills Hill station and will hopefully get them done soon.”
