Stuart Lingard charged with child sex offences
Date published: 27 February 2015
Stuart Lingard, 38, of Borrowdale Drive, Marland, a former music teacher, has been charged with child sex offences.
He has been charged with five counts of an abuse of a position of trust (sexual activity with a child aged 13-17).
Lingard was arrested in March 2014 over allegations of historic inappropriate sexual behaviour in the Rochdale area.
The alleged offences are said to have been taken place between 2009 and 2011 while Lingard was working for Rochdale Music Service and taught in schools across the borough.
Lingard, a former Brighouse and Rastrick Band Master, was named the best musician at the 160th British Open Brass Band Championship in 2012.
He is a former principal cornet of the Yorkshire Building Society Band, a position held for six years and a specialist brass teacher.
Lingard appeared before Bury and Rochdale Magistrates on Friday 13 February 2015. He will next appear at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on 6 March.
