Rochdale RUFC raise £25,000 for Tom Thornton Fund
Date published: 03 March 2015
Rochdale RUFC raised a staggering £25,000 for the Tom Thornton Fund at its inaugural fund raising event on Friday 27 February
Over 200 guests attended the Sportsman's Dinner, which was hosted by compere and chairman of the club, Iain Coates, supported by guest speaker Mike Watkinson, ex England and Lancashire cricketer.
Tom lost his battle with cancer aged 25 — only three weeks after the birth of his son.
The funds help Tom Thornton's wife Chantelle and son Maxwell.
A club spokesman said: "Thanks to all those who attended and to those who have supported with kind donations, it has been incredible the amount of support there has been."
The club is organising lots more events, including a Charity Concert on Sunday 31 May 2015.
