Rochdale Township Committee meeting as it happened

Date published: 05 March 2015

Wednesday 4 March

A police update is first.

There has been a notable reduction in crime and in particular in burglaries and anti-social behaviour. The police are also tackling anti social behaviour on the Metrolink following an increase in issues.

The open forum is next.

An issue surrounding the sale of land, which is used as a village green on Swift Lane, is addressed. Residents asked the council to not sell the land.

The disposal of land at Cut lane/Caldershaw Road is brought forward due to the response from members of the public. A number of people have turned out for discussions on the issue.

Residents don’t want to see the land disposed of and think it will be a huge loss to the community.

Councillors agree to defer a decision on both pieces of land until site visits have been undertaken.

Taxi drivers approach the councillors again in relation to cars using Drake Street. Councillors agree to a meeting with stakeholders regarding the issue but don’t see it going any further.

A presentation regarding the flood resilience pathfinder is next. In Rochdale the scheme has focused on Wardleworth and the River Roch.

A number of councillors praise the work of the team surrounding flooding in the borough.

A presentation regarding the Town Centre East development is next.

Following the public consultation the scheme has received positive feedback.

The naming of the Rochdale Memorial Gardens Footpath in honour of RSM James Clarke VC is next.

Councillors are asked to agree the renaming of the footpath in the memorial gardens following discussions with James Clarke’s family.

Councillors agree the proposals.

The disposal of Partnership House is next.

The building is a Grade 2 listed building but is surplus to operational requirements.

Councillors ask that further investigation into the site take place before any disposal is agreed.

Meeting ended.
