GCSE students from Whitworth Community High School
Watching a Spanish film at the Cornerhouse in Manchester proved to be a useful and enjoyable exercise for GCSE Spanish students.
The 17 year 10 GCSE students from Whitworth Community High School watched ‘Maria y wl arana’ and found it helped them with their studies.
Imogen Landers, 14, said: “I found the story really, really interesting. I thought I might not understand it but it was quite easy to follow and understand.
“It taught me different words, which has helped because I am doing my controlled assessment.
“Learning a language at GCSE level helps you when you are applying for a university place.”
The story was about a boy who dressed up as Spider-Man.
Daniel Heath, 14, said: “It was interesting going into the Cornerhouse because people were speaking different languages.
“I think it will be difficult in the future if you don’t know a language.”
Modern Foreign Languages teacher Rebeca Martinez said: “The behaviour of our Year 10 students was exemplary and they represented our school superbly. Students enjoyed the experience and felt lucky to have had the experience.”
After going to the Cornerhouse, the students also had a follow up session in school when they got to analyse different aspects of the film.
