The Parent Forum are hosting a Fashion Show on Tuesday 31 March in the school’s Sports Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm, with the show starting at 7:00pm. Tickets cost £3.00 each, including either a glass of wine or soft drink. Tickets are available from Mrs Corlett at school, and must be purchased in advance.

Oulder Hill students recently took part in a variety of activities to commemorate British Science Week (Friday 13 to Friday 20 March). These activities included: CSI (Tuesday), making aeroplane wings and testing them (Wednesday), Anatomy Class - dissections of different organs (Thursday) and learning and making models about the solar eclipse using food (Friday). Sixty Year 10 students visited Alton Towers on Tuesday 24 March to learn about the science behind designing rollercoasters. Key Stage 3 students took part in the “Science on Your Doorstep” competition and some students will be selected to represent the school in the National British Science Week Competition. Winners will be selected after Friday 27 March. Thank you to all the staff and students involved in running a successful week.

Students from Oulder Hill have been participating in the Rochdale Youth Festival of Performing Arts. On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March, students performed in various categories with hugely successful results. On the Saturday, the following students competed in the Key Stage 3 Accompanied Pop Solo Category: Leah Fisher, Benn Johnson, Chloe Davies, Amira El Moamaly, Natalie Jones, Katie Hicks, Olivia Lindsay, Morgan Shepherd, Melissa Lingard, Phoebe Massey and Ben Whitehead. All of the students performed brilliantly but it was Amira El Moamaly (first place) and Melissa Lingard (second place) who impressed the judges the most.

On Sunday morning, the Key Stage 4 Accompanied Pop Solo Category took place, with performances from: Nixon Mandigo, Jaiomi Roberts, Chloe Thompson, Megan Smith, Rebecca Gill and Charlotte Warrington. Again all of the students did a marvellous job of representing the school and performed brilliantly, with a special well done to Jaiomi Roberts (first place) and Chloe Thompson (second place).
On Sunday afternoon, students competed in the Accompanied Pop Song Duet categories. Amira El Moamaly and Chloe Davies; and Loren Brand and Phoebe Massey performed in the Key Stage 3 category, with Amira and Chloe finishing in first place. Jaiomi Roberts and Charlotte Warrington; and Rebecca Gill and Chloe Thompson took part in the Key Stage 4 category, with Jaiomi and Charlotte taking first place.

Jaiomi also competed in the Key Stage 4 Singer/Songwriter category, performing one of her own songs on a ukulele, finishing in first place.

Also in the afternoon; Melissa Hardman, Amira El Moamaly, Chloe Davies, Melissa Lingard, Morgan Shepherd and Abbie Holt took part in the Vocal Group category, accompanied by Mr Jackson. The girls sang their hearts out and performed exceptionally. Unfortunately, no other vocal groups competed in this section so the girls won by default. However, the judge had really positive things to say about the performance and the girls really enjoyed performing to an audience.

Next up the Ukulele Band performed in the Key Stage 4 Vocal Group category. The current line-up of the Ukulele Band is as follows: Ben Whitehead, Nixon Mandigo, Chloe Davies, Charlotte Warrington, Jaiomi Roberts, Harry Edwards, Zoya Gill and Connor Marland-Lord. The judge awarded the band with the highest marks of the entire weekend (87/100) and each member contributed their best efforts to ensure the result.

The final category was the ‘Bands’ category where the Band and Mr Benet decided that they would enter the Key Stage 4 category even though they are a Key Stage 3 band, they decided they wanted a bigger challenge and so opted to compete against older students from the other competing schools. Ben Whitehead, Melissa Lingard, Harry Edwards, Zoya Gill, Lucy Crabtree, Zara Bradley-Ahmed and Lewis Miller performed with confidence and swagger to earn them second place.

The following students attended Rochdale Sixth Form for the first ever Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ceremony held in Rochdale. Students were presented with Bronze and Silver awards by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Carol Wardle. Oulder Hill had by far the most students receiving awards in the borough. Three of our students (Beth Chadwick, Shannon Moorhouse and Charles Dickon) organised the event and were also the presenters on the evening, doing an excellent job. All students were a credit to the school and D of E.

Silver Award winners: Sidrah Asim, Georgina Butterworth and Alex Nunns.

The Year 9 Boys’ Rugby Team enjoyed their best success to date by finishing as runners up in the Lancashire Finals at Blackburn RUFC. Having qualified to represent Greater Manchester, Oulder Hill participated against winners of the Merseyside and North Lancashire Competitions. Oulder Hill’s group consisted of Bury Church, Highfield, Alder Grange, Knowsley Park and SFX Liverpool. The boys started with a narrow 1-0 defeat against rivals Bury Church. They then played Highfield in their second group fixture, which finished 1-1. Oulder Hill then defeated SFX Liverpool 4-0 and Alder Grange 2-1, and were awarded a 4-0 win over Knowsley Park who had to forfeit the match. The result of the competition makes the Year 9 Team the second best ‘All School’ in the North West, a fantastic achievement. Huge congratulations to: Dayne Stewart, Jack Turner, Callum Ruffell, Jordan Parkhill, Eddy Riley, Emmerson Bradshaw, Liam Hicks, Matthew Greenwood, Daniel Madeley , Marcus Welsby, Connor Marland-Lord, Hakeem Gbajabiamila and Hayden Lewis. Thank you to staff for making this happen, the boys are elated! Also, thank you to Mr Bardsley and Mr Meah for helping out on the day.

The Year 7 and 8 Rugby Teams competed last week in their Greater Manchester ‘All Schools’ competition at Broughton Park RFC. Sadly, neither team were able to follow the success of the Year 9/10 Boys and Girls teams, although the quality of Rugby played by both teams should have brought them more success. The Year 8 team won one out of four games and the Year 7 team won two out of six fixtures. In total, we took just short of 30 pupils. Well done to all the students who took part and represented the school: Year 7: Lucas Dowd , Chris Carney, Tommy Coleman , Mohammad Qaisar , Edward Pickard, Isaac Khan, Tom Elkin-Walker, James Warburton, Will Strudwick, Aaron Hill , Dylan Stott, and Mason Shortall. Year 8: Muzamil Bashir, Saif Zulfiqar, Aadam Latif, Azaan Tariq, Mohammad Faisal, Sean Crossley, Eren Dincer, Harry Toogood, Jack Ashton, Zaki Bowden, Joe Moore, Haseeb Raza, Isma’il Mackmood, Bilal Malik, Luis Andrew and Ethan Pope.
