Whitworth Community High School's special event to promote Science Technology Engineering and Maths
Harry Dyer from the Science Boffin project delighted students when he introduced them to a range of fun and exciting experiments to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
Students from Whitworth Community High School got to witness and take part in a range of experiments over a whole week, which fuelled their interest in the subjects.
Harry Wakefield, 13, said: “We made a mini rocket using a film canister. We added sodium bicarbonate and vinegar and the top blew off – some even reached the ceiling.
“It was really excellent and we got to do lots of practical experiments.”
Another experiment involved a bottle of liquid and a ‘squid’, which moved to the bottom of the bottle when pressure was applied to the water.
Jessica Turner, 13, said: “I enjoy science because our teacher always answers all our questions and I want to be a marine wildlife biologist.”
Harry added: “It got you learning new things about the world. I think Science is an interesting subject but my favourite is History because I like learning about the past as it helps you to prepare for the future.”
