Whitworth Community High students on colourful 5k run

Date published: 06 May 2015

Two students from Whitworth Community High School, together with their mothers, completed a crazy fun run for Cancer Research UK.

Year 11 Courtney Witter, 16, and Year 9 Alex Lord, 13, joined their mums Gayle and Caroline, finance assistant at the school, to complete the Run or Dye 5k fun run in Platt Fields Park, Manchester.

They both succeeded in running the race, billed as ‘the world’s most colourful 5k’ in under 28 minutes, but they didn’t manage to avoid getting covered in multi-coloured corn flour bombs.

Alex explained: “At the start we were dancing with the DJ and we got covered in dye and then at the checkpoints every kilometre they had dye stations and as you went through they threw dye at you.”

Courtney ended up with dye all over her head and neck while Alex was left wearing tights until the dye on the back of her legs finally faded, but both thoroughly enjoyed the event and said they would do it all again.

They were joined in the park by thousands of others who also took part in the fun run.

Alex said: “My friends thought I was a little crazy for doing it.”

Courtney added: “I would do it again if I trained for it. The run was really nice with lots of beautiful scenery.”
