Man died after a collision in Blackstone Avenue, Belfield

At 9.15am this morning (Tuesday 30 June 2015), a lorry collided with a man on Blackstone Avenue, off Bellshill Crescent, Belfield.

Emergency services attended and a man believed to be in his sixties was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are currently trying to trace his next-of-kin and he has not yet been formally identified.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody for questioning.

Sergeant Brian Orr of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is clearly a tragic incident in which a man has lost his life and we are currently working to identify members of his family, who we will then be providing support to at this harrowing time for them.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this collision and I would ask for anyone that witnessed this incident, or perhaps saw the lorry shortly before, to please contact police.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.
