New Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre entrance open to the public

Date published: 02 July 2015

The new entrance to the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre has been completed and is now open to the public.

As well as the new entrance, there has been additional escalators and lifts fitted, as well as changes to the individual stores’ structures made.

Speaking about the new developments, Debbie Hernon, Centre Manager said: "We would like to say a massive thank you to all of our customers for their patience on this huge project that is now nearly at the finishing line.

“This exciting new step in our redevelopment process comes after the old overhead walkways, which linked us to the now demolished bus station were removed last year as part of a wider investment scheme to create a new retail and leisure zone on the eastern side of the town centre"

It is understood that another new lift is due to be installed in the Baillie Street entrance, which as well as allowing easy access to stores such as Argos, Wilko's, New Look, Peacocks and more, will also facilitate an easy route to the rest of the town.

The work was originally scheduled to have been completed by Christmas 2014, however, Globe MSL, the contractor appointed to deliver the project, went into administration part way through the work.

Styles and Wood took over late last year and planned to complete by May this year, but has been dogged by unforeseen problems, hence the additional delay.
