Health and Well Being Awards evening

Please remember that this special evening will take place on Thursday 9 July at 7pm at the Gracie Fields Theatre and will be an opportunity to share the successes of the whole school in a variety of awards, sports related and achievements of the entire school population. Please try your best to attend this special event which gives us the opportunity to admire the successes of our youngsters.

Parent Consultation sessions / Annual Reports

A reminder that the parents consultation sessions will take place on the following dates :
Years 7,8 and 9 – Tuesday 7 July
Years 10 & 11 – Tuesday 14 July
Post 16 – Tuesday 14 July
To follow up the annual review / My Plan review meetings already held during this academic year, an annual report will be sent to parents in time for the consultation meetings.

Nomination for Award

The school received confirmation this week that we have been shortlisted for the 'Healthy Living Award' as part of the Manchester Evening News Awards. The ceremony will take place on Friday 10 July at 12pm at The Hilton Hotel on Deansgate and staff and a group of students will attend to see if we have been successful. This is further confirmation and acknowledgment of the work to support our youngster`s healthy lifestyles.

PE Training Workshop for students

We are delighted to have the services of 3 leading experts in the area of PE for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties, who will be working staff and students to demonstrate movement exploration and dance activities for PMLD students! What a fantastic opportunity for the school to further develop our provision for youngsters with profound and multiple learning difficulties!

Student Council consultation on the building proposals

Members of the Student Council took part in a consultation meeting with the local authority on the proposals for the building extension developments and the plans for the Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre (REEC). As ever the youngsters were very attentive and asked some relevant questions to the LA team who were present at the meeting.

KS5

In our English groups we have been looking at the sensory poem The Rainforest. Sohail liked the sensory umbrella, whilst Ryan and Billie enjoyed meeting the different animals.

Anees for increased attendance and improved time keeping, and for showing a great attitude to his learning, especially in English and Music

Student of the week

Ragnar for being more active and participating well in class, especially Sensory Sports.
 
In our Vocational Education classes this term we have focused on Horticulture. Sofia checked out the work wear and George visited the greenhouse. Dexter helped to plant the lettuce seeds.
 
Paul Diamond has been on his Pre-Internship placement for the past 8 weeks at Rochdale Bus Station.

This week, he has focused on tendered monitoring. What exactly is tendered monitoring? In Paul’s own words:

“Checking the times of the bus timetables and making sure the buses are running on schedule. I used a tick sheet to monitor they run on time. I also direct members of the public to the rights stands. I enjoy the hustle and bustle of working at the bus station.”

Mrs James group have been busy making props for their production.
 
We are all very proud of Khadija, she has spent all her spare time over the last few weeks sewing a beautiful cross stitch flower.
 
KS3

Year 7C class had a trip to Hebden Bridge for traditional fish and chips, eating under the shade of a beautiful tree in the park, before spending time in the play park on using the roundabout, swings and climbing frame. The weather was amazing; they all had a great day out.

Stacy’s Enrichment group visited the Cherwell Centre, they met Dazzles the hedgehog, Marley the goat and lots of other animals and reptiles.

The Boxing group learning new skills and techniques from Steven from Hamer Boxing Club.

This half term, Lilac class have been making and enjoying a variety of healthy ice lollies. They have made a range of lollies using different pieces of fresh fruit, yoghurt, coconut milk and even lollies that have some food colouring in so they could draw with them and produce a piece of fantastic art work!
