The woman tragically stabbed to death on Shawclough Way has been named as Miriam Nyazema.

Ms Nyazema had worked at Shawside nursing home in Shaw for 13 years.

Ruth Yates, area director for Bupa Care Homes, said: “Everyone at the home and within Bupa is deeply shocked and our thoughts are with Miriam’s family. Miriam was a great nurse with a caring heart, who brought a real ray of sunshine to the home.

“I have known Miriam since she joined us in 2002 and she has always been incredibly popular with our residents, their families, and all her colleagues.

“We are providing support for her colleagues and our residents, and providing whatever assistance we can to the police investigation.”

At around 9.50pm on Wednesday 28 July 2015, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Shawclough Way in Rochdale - 35-year-old Ms Nyazema lived at 66 Shawclough Way.

Numerous reports were received of a man with a gun and further reports were received of shots having been fired.

Armed officers deployed to the location discovered Ms Nyazema with stab wound injuries. First aid was administered by officers and paramedics and she was taken to hospital where she later died from her injuries.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said on arrival officers arrested a man with a gun, however, police have now confirmed that the gun was a BB gun, not a firearm.

Two men, aged 45 and 35 were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

The community in and around Shawclough have described the incident as ‘shocking’.
