Man dies in collision on Falinge Road

A man has died following a road traffic collision on Falinge Road.
Shortly before 8am (Thursday 20 August) a lorry and a Mercedes A160 were involved in a collision near to Falinge Park High School.
Emergency services attended and the man who had been driving the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the lorry was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving
Falinge Road is closed in both directions close to the junction with Bentmeadows. Traffic to/from Shawclough is being diverted via Howard Street and Whitworth Road.
Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been travelling on Falinge Road from Rochdale Town Centre towards Shawclough.

UPDATE 2.30PM
Falinge Road has now re-opened in both directions.
