Dogs die following kitchen fire

Two dogs have died from smoke inhalation after a kitchen caught fire when a deep fat fryer was left unattended at a house on Thrush Street, Rochdale.
Fire crews were called to the house in Spotland, just after 2:35pm on Wednesday 19 August, after neighbours spotted smoke coming from an upstairs window.
Two crews from Rochdale and one crew from Littleborough attended and broke in through the back door of the property and discovered the blaze.
The two dogs were found hiding from the blaze in an upstairs room and were carried to the back yard.
Fire fighters attempted to resuscitate them using oxygen, but they died at the scene.
Fire fighters used breathing apparatus, two hose reels and fans to clear the smoke.
The residents of the property were out at the time of the fire.
