Brussels bureaucrats blasted over TV spending

Brussels bureaucrats have been blasted over squandering UK taxpayers cash on TV programmes by local MEP Paul Nuttall.
A report has revealed that more than 50 EU grants have been given out to media production companies, some producing work with an EU bias.
“Projects benefiting from the £1billion spend, funded by the Creative Europe Initiative include a cartoon series abut alien squirrels.
“On which planet are EU bureaucrats, who willy-nilly throw our money away on such outlandish projects, living? Perhaps the alien squirrels could take them away,” said Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader.
Other large chunks of the cash, to be spread out over five years, has gone to documentaries and films including a film about climate change and a BBC mockumentary about what life might be like if Britain quits the EU.
“That programme, of course, gave an apocalyptic vision of the break-up, which is hardly surprising as the BBC received £22 million over seven years from the EU communications budget,” said Mr Nuttall.
“That particular show received a total of £71,000 of EU money on a development version of the project and a further £292,000 went to ‘Get Blake’, a science fiction animation about space rangers fighting alien squirrels.
“Well done to the Taxpayers Alliance for their report exposing this Creative Europe Initiative which is yet another outrageous waste of British taxpayers money hard earned money.
“We are facing an unprecedented migration crisis across Europe in which lives of the most vulnerable are lost on a daily basis. Instead of squandering cash on grants to such projects they should be devoting time and money to far more serious issues facing them,” said Mr Nuttall.
