Siddal Moor careers event
Date published: 28 September 2015
Siddal Moor hosted it's first ever careers event last Thursday (24 September).
All the students were invited to the school sports hall to see over 24 post 16 providers from around the North-West region.
Organiser Steve Walmsley said: “I am delighted with the response and felt many students came away learning something new about their potential career path for life after Siddal Moor.
“I had an idea many months ago to host a careers day and despite intense planning the whole point of the idea was to raise the aspirations of the students at Siddal Moor, but more importantly it was also to get our current year 11's engaged with the next phase of their education for when they leave us next year."
Parents were also given the chance to attend the event in which many took the opportunity to see what career paths are available for their child.
All the students were treated to a host of various activities from the providers that included TV presenting, students both boys and girls had fake bruises painted onto their faces that may have given some parents a shock when they got home, pottery making, a football skills session, a hair & beauty boutique, and an opportunity to hold live snakes, spiders and giant snails.
Students were also shown how to design cakes and biscuits as well as receiving many freebie hand-outs by the providers ranging from cookies, chocolates, pens and various gadgets.
Mr Walmsley said: “I would like to thank all the providers that came to the event and to the students from all year groups and parents who attended the event.”
