Planned armed robbery foiled by member of the public
Date published: 02 October 2015
A planned armed robbery in Heywood was foiled by a member of the public on Wednesday (30 September).
A gang of masked men, who were spotted in their car with hammers and who were seen covering their faces with balaclavas and hoodies, were seen waiting outside of Darnhill Post Office on Argyle Street at around 3pm.
They are believed to have followed a cash transit van to the post office but were forced to leave empty handed after the alarm was raised. The driver of the van had made his way inside the shop and was warned by a member of the public that the gang were waiting outside.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The van driver went inside and was warned by a member of the public that the gang were outside. The offenders stopped behind the van, looked in and drove off empty handed.”
