Samantha Harrington releases first book

Date published: 17 October 2015

Smithy bridge resident Samantha Harrington has released her first book.

The book, entitled Obsession, is described as a “dark, mafia type, erotic thriller” and was thought up in Samantha’s imagination after she read over 500 books of similar genres.

She said: “My son was in hospital a lot and sitting by his bedside got boring so I started to read and I think I read somewhere between 500 and 600 books of the same genre and I just thought, ‘you know what, I could write this’ and it went from there.”

Samantha then put pen to paper and started writing her first book.

“It was hard,” said Samantha, “I had to have two editors look at it because I write how I speak and my grammar isn’t great, so in that sense it was hard. I also had to fit it in around looking after six children, doing the school run and going to hospital appointments.”

The book was released on 29 September and is available in digital and paperback form.

Samantha said: “It was nice to get that copy in my hand and see that I had done it. At the end of the day I want to show my children that if you put your mind to something and stick with it, you can do it. It isn’t a Nobel Peace prize but this is a huge achievement for me.”

Readers have also been praising the book, with Samantha receiving four and five star reviews.

“It seems to have gone down well because we have been getting four and five star reviews, so that is great to see,” added Samantha.

Samantha is already writing her second book, which she hopes will be released in the New Year.

She added: “I have started writing my second book and you can either read it as a standalone book, or you can read it after the first one. You don’t have to have read the first book to make sense of the second one. Hopefully by the New Year I will have two books released.”
