The level crossing at Smithy Bridge failed again on Monday (2 November) afternoon.
Drivers were left waiting for around fifteen minutes whilst the barriers were not operational.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The crossing barriers failed between 2.23pm and 2.38pm on 2 November. The crossing’s lights continued to flash throughout which is a clear warning to not cross the railway. Normal working resumed from 2.38pm and safety checks took place overnight.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and remind all users to not use the crossing if either the barriers are down or the warning lights are flashing.”
Residents in the area have grown concerned at the safety of the crossing following numerous reports that the barriers fail to work correctly.
