Councillor Carol Wardle donates £500 to the Friends of Hopwood Park

Date published: 20 November 2015

Councillor Carol Wardle has donated £500 from her Mayor’s Charity Fund to the Friends of Hopwood Park.

Money donated to the friends group was raised by Councillor Wardle and her charity committee during her mayoral year of 2014-2015, during which £51,000 was raised for local charities.

Councillor Wardle said: “I have always supported this group because they all work tirelessly to improve the parks facilities. The park has the first co-located bowling club and playgroup, and is now working towards a ‘Café in the Park’ as a meeting place for local residents to enjoy.”

The Friends of Hopwood Park group was set up to ensure that Hopwood Rec becomes a valuable asset to the community that can be utilised to give the best opportunity to allow residents to gain benefits from exercise, community cohesion and wellbeing.

Sandra Trickett, Chairwoman of Friends of Hopwood Park, said: “We were delighted to receive this gift from the Mayor’s Charity Fund at the Hopwood Winter Market when our young Friends of Hopwood Park members officially opened the ‘Hopwood Cabin’.

“We would like to thank Councillor Wardle for this very kind donation and for coming along to our event. We will spend the money wisely to further the work of the friends group for the benefit of the local community.”
