Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre

The formal opening of the Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre (REEC) took place this week and was attended by a variety of colleagues who have supported the planning of the project: Local Authority, governors and members of the local business community. A very special moment for all associated with REEC.

Year 7 – 9 Curriculum Creative Days

This week students and staff in key stage 3 have had a wonderful the opportunity to take part in a project which celebrates the Diwali Festival of Light. This included a visit to the Science museum and workshops exploring sensory light. The feedback from the students was fantastic – a big `thanks’ to Mr Lord for organizing the event.

Health Review review

Thank you to those parents / carers who attended the drop in session this week with NHS managers to discuss the proposals for the health care of our youngsters. It was a very useful meeting to formulate some positive actions and procedures during this period of discussion. Your support is very much appreciated.

Switch Off Monitors

Throughout school we now have a group of `Switch off Monitors` who will be responsible for ensuring unused equipment is turned off and lights are switched off .. In the first few days they have been highly effective in classes. Well done to those students involved.

Moving On Exhibition- Friday

We saw a variety of external agencies in school as part of the `Moving On’ exhibition for students and parents to access more information as we help our youngsters to prepare for adulthood.

Congratulations to one of our Post 16 students, who was presented with a special award by the director of services this week in a ceremony at the Local Authority, we are all proud of your achievements.

KS4

Another busy week in the key stage 4 department, staff and students had a great day on Friday raising money for Children in Need.
The creative Friday group made an anti-bullying film using the green screen. Some students have made some mini movie sets.

SEB students have been making chocolate covered apples. The SSC have been looking at using different technology around school.

KS3

This week KS3 students went on a trip to the Museum of science and Industry in Manchester to look at how light is made and can be used. Students spent the day taking part in workshops and experiments. They all had a great time.
Also on Tuesday the rest of KS3 students spent the day exploring light. Some students went in the hydro pool to look at the sensory lights while others took part in classroom activities. Students also were busy preparing to celebrate the Diwali festival of light.

KS5

Monday morning college students have been working hard preparing the soil and planting out. It’s been a wee bit cold so students have shown real dedication to their work. Well done everyone.

James has been working on recognising facial expressions and emotions and expressing what he likes and doesn’t like. He has been working well in Life Skills lessons.

Congratulations to the gardening group for breaking the schools previous gardening record. The previous record was five completed gardens in a rotation and this group of students managed to complete six.

Students on the Skills for Independence route have been putting their Maths and English skills into practice when ordering drinks in Asda. They also went to locate items from the shop, finding cards for an 18th birthday. Over the next few weeks, we will be visiting the community to ensure our skills are all ready, preparing for adulthood.

Daniel for settling in well to the routines of 6th form, following instructions and excellent work in Music.

Most Improved

Raymond for coping with problems and difficulties in a mature manner by talking to the right people and remaining calm.
